Hand-held PCs
Las Vegas, NV
As the world of hand-held PCs continues to grow, Express Technologies
will create a Windows CE version of World Watch®H$
for Microsoft®H$ Windows®H$.
Because of the fast pace of the world today, individuals as well as
corporations find the hand-held PCs to be much more effective for the
work environment.
The hand-held PCs are becoming more universal each day. Futoshi
Kuwamoto recently published the article "Hand-held PCs Get Down to
Business" pertaining hand-held PC use around the world as shown is
this excerpt below...
Smaller, lighter devices with improved functions popular in corporate
world.
Businesspeople are starting to realize the benefits of the new breed of
hand-held personal computers coming onto the market. Though
falling into the personal-digital-assistant category, they come with
keyboards and have improved Internet and audio functions.
Most are equipped with Microsoft Corp.'s Windows CD operating system,
and many can link with other PCs to increase their utility during
business meetings.
The PDA market got its initial boost with the debut of Sharp Corp.'s
Zaurus and other palm-size models equipped with software developed by
Palm Inc. of the U.S. But people who prefer to input information
using a keyboard are turning to hand-held PCs, which are smaller and
lighter than laptops.
Most hand-held PCs do not have a hard-disk drive and store data in their
memory. But despite their lower memory capacity, they are an
effective mobile device because they can run for long periods, require
less time to start up and can store data safely.
Among the variety of operating systems developed for hand-held PCs,
Microsoft Windows CD has the largest market share. In October
2000, Microsoft began marketing the Microsoft Windows Powered Handheld
PC 2000 operating system, an improved version of the Windows CD 3.0.
Specialized software
According to a sales clerk at Bic Camera's Ikebukuro store, models
equipped with Windows CE are popular among businesspeople because they
come with a variety of specialized software such as word processing,
spreadsheet and presentation software.
Recently, more people are beginning to use hand-held PCs to exchange
e-mail and browse the Internet, which can be done by connecting them
with mobile telephones or personal handy-phone terminals.
Many companies are rushing to enter the PDA market, which is expected to
expand considerably.
Shipments of hand-held PCs are estimated to have topped the 200,000 mark
in 2000, accounting for a little les than 20% of the entire
market. That share is expected to become even bigger in the
future.
